I think I'll stick with George Steiner's 'The Meaning of Meaning'. I find it hard to belive that every life has a purpose in a world racked by war, poverty and greed. And what of the aborted unborn. That rather messes up the symetry of the claim that 'Everyone has a specific vocation or mission in life' doesn;t it? We give life and death meaning to assure ourselves of a non-existent pattern. But the pattern is always changing, like a kaleidascope nothing repeats, everything is random.

Viktor Frankl's 'definition' of 'meaning' it is from the subjective or 'inner' point of view...THERE IS A MEANING TO DISCOVERY...[potential ] For example, for me, here and now, to respond your's comments...!
Another point of view is the 'interpretation'
of 'human destiny' or 'human meaning' in generals terms.

By the way, I know some about Zen and I think it is very interesting for me. For example, Alan Watts in the West...
In the same way, in the West, there are a lot of people...they 'are writing ' about Zen or Budism, but in the 'inner sense '...they are a POOR COPY of the Oriental Sage...
